My friend Rachel posted this image on her Instagram Account with the following caption (Emphasis Mine):
It took me many trials and years to get this - but it's the straight up truth. You don't need to be your own press agent. Let God, in His time, LIFT YOU UP - in the meantime - LIFT SOMEBODY ELSE UP. Find ways to facilitate OTHERS.

This is a powerful thought. One of the most frequently asked or implied questions that I get is, WHAT DO I DO IN THE MEANTIME!? This question is often prefaced with the explanation of a dream or a goal. This question always comes along with all of the passions and all of the reasons why this goal needs to be fulfilled, and it often comes with a suggested timeline.

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end - Ecclesiastes 3.11

Here's the thing, there is nothing wrong with any of this. There is nothing wrong with this question. There is nothing wrong with expecting hard work to pay off. But, there is something wrong if we are willing to do or accomplish these goals at the expense of others. It may be at the expense of your family, the expense of your friends, or even the cannibalization of your mentors.
Now, first thing you may be thinking is... "Listen bro, I've got my hustle on!" I am not talking about your hustle. I am not talking about your grind. I am talking about you mercilessly sacrificing relationships or people for the sake of the next notch in your belt.

Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice... 1 Samuel 15.22

I love that phrase. OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE. This is the part where God tells us that all of our best attempts at trying and doing and accomplishing are useless if they are not tied to his voice.

So what do I do in the in between. When I am waiting for my big break or promotion, or opportunity, or I am waiting for my investment to pay off, or for the page to turn on my past... what do I do in the in between?
Why not ponder these questions:

1) IS THERE A REASON WHY I'M STILL HERE?
2) WHAT SHOULD I BE LEARNING RIGHT NOW?
3) AM I MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?

and
4) IS THIS A GOOD IDEA OR A GOD IDEA
There are all kinds of reasons WHY you are where you are, so how about you maximize your time here.

Here are some things to consider pursuing while you are in the in between.

1) COMMIT TO THE CUT
This might be a great time to consider some OPEN HEART SURGERY. Before you get your scalpel let me explain. When we are in the in between, we are afforded the opportunity to make sure that we are ready for the next step or the next season.
You don't have time to get ready when the moment comes, so COMMIT TO THE CUT, OPEN YOUR HEART, and get to work. Ask Jesus to guide you and to highlight the things that He would have you work on, just get ready, that is one of the scariest prayers that you could ever pray.

2) COMMIT TO THE CUE
Everything will be made beautiful in God's time... sounds like a Hallmark Card, but this is a timeless truth. Think about it. Remember that time you prayed desperately about being in that relationship with that dream person... Remember that?
Remember how after you got to know that person you realized that was the worst prayer of your life and you instantly took it back and began praying WAY HARDER that the relationship would never happen.

Ya... been there.

What we learned in those moments is that there is a beauty in the timing of Jesus. There is an ebb and a flow. Trust me... if things aren't happening how you thing they should, there is probably a reason. Just think of it like this... you aren't desperately waiting for the NEXT THING, you are now patiently waiting for all the right things to come into alignment.

3) COMMIT TO THE CUB
Do you remember that person who took you under their wing, showed you everything you knew, and just began an all around great support system?

Do you remember how you took all of the knowledge, wisdom, support & love, and soaked it up like a sponge?

Do you remember how that person used their personal platform and created an opportunity for you so that you could grow and develop?

Do you remember how that person watched and cheered as you took all the tools they could give you, and you began to excel and far exceed even your own lofty expectations?

Do you remember how that person is still your biggest fan, and although they may not fully understand where you are at right now, they are still there to walk you through it every step of the way?

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN.

It's time for you to give back. It's time for you to pour out. And trust me, you will be better for it. Remember, you would never be where you are today without that person in your corner, so who's corner are you going to stand in?

Maybe you are reading this and you don't have any clue what I am talking about. Maybe you've never experienced this? Well it's time to change your story. It's time for you to be that person. Not sure how? Just be that person you always wished you had.
